Brennan Center for Justice — State Court Report
Managed the launch of this nonpartisan publication on state constitutions and courts, establishing editorial systems, impact metrics, and a growth strategy, and continuing to advise on audience development and partnerships. State Court Report now reaches 50,000+ subscribers and is a trusted national resource on state constitutional rights.
Colorado Media Project
Built and managed early growth of this statewide initiative to strengthen local news and civic information, including strategy, governance, fundraising, partnerships, and an initial $1.5 million budget. The project helped catalyze collaborative funding and community-driven journalism efforts across Colorado.
Knight Commission on Trust, Media & Democracy
Developed and synthesized public engagement around the work of a high-level commission examining trust in democratic institutions, including editing an online publication and distilling public input for senior media and philanthropic leaders. The work informed funding strategies to support trustworthy local media.
NYU — Cybersecurity for Democracy
Led communications and product strategy, translating complex digital research into public-facing narrative across the website, newsletter, and publications, and serving as project manager for Ad Observatory, a searchable tool tracking political advertising on social media. This work helped shape public debate on platform transparency.
First Draft
Designed and delivered a multi-state journalism training initiative focused on countering online disinformation, training local reporters in five states ahead of the 2020 election and authoring Misinformation in Your Backyard, a field-facing best-practices report. The work strengthened journalists’ capacity to identify and respond to misinformation.
Writer, editor & researcher
Authored, edited, and ghostwrote op-eds, investigations, research, white papers, and testimony on democracy, technology, and related issues, and co-authored two books on money and politics. This work has appeared in outlets including The New York Times, Harper’s, USA Today, and Nieman Lab.
